Foundation Diploma Students in Art and Design at Central Saint Martins
20th March - 6th May 2017
1-100 is an annual project for Product and Ceramic Design students on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Central Saint Martins. Using a bank of industrial plaster moulds donated by a factory in Stoke-on-Trent, students are invited to design specifically for the Central Saint Martins Kings Cross site.
Students are asked to consider how we are situated within historic, ex-industrial, buildings that have been sympathetically converted to accommodate all the artistic disciplines. They were asked to work with traditional production technique (slip-casting) to produce contemporary vessels designed for use at Central Saint Martins. This included Tableware for the canteen and lighting for social or study spaces.
For many students this is their first opportunity to work in ceramics and this project acts as an introduction to the potential and versatility of the material and also as an introduction to the batch production of cast materials and designs within industry. They also had the opportunity to work alongside the BA Ceramic Design students, using the BA department’s fantastic workshops and facilities.
Artists include: Phoebe Eggar, Eva Gates, Georgia Dale, Bingqing Lin, Claudio Brogi, Sara Howard, Weiran Li, Mingyu Wu, Valentina Bacci, Neeraka Karon, Yang Cui, Pablo Hermida & Samuel Thoumieux.
