Central Saint Martins Ceramic Design BA

22nd November - 24th February 2018

A responsible and ethical approach to design affects the environmental and economic implications of mass and bath production. Stoke-on-Trent based Endeka Ceramics have developed ThemECO, an energy efficient clay body that significantly reduces an artefacts carbon footprint through single or low firing. ThermECO performs with similar characteristics to a higher fired porcelain or stoneware clay. Students in their second year on BA Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martins were challenged to investigate the production possibilities of ThermECO clay; how it might influence surface and form when applied to functional ceramic artefacts. This exhibition showcases some of these finished ceramic objects alongside a selection of research, test samples and approaches used in the design development process.
