As a Ceramic Artist Kidd’s practice is deeply influenced by his childhood in Northern Ireland. Growing up at the end of a conflict and in a county where peace was relatively new, Kidd’s childhood memories are filled with images of the beautiful county he was surrounded by, bomb scares and helicopters are merely a distant memory.

Kidd strives to create work which reflects these memories, pieces which evoke a sense of what it means to be Northern Irish. Pieces which are symbolic of both the beauty of the land as well as its complex past.

Simon Kidd’s pieces are familiar at first glance to the ones which fill our homes, they are quiet and undemanding in their functions which leaves space for contemplation. Locations which reflect more than just the beauty of the land but connect to the experiences of the people, are embedded into these objects through exploitation of processes and materials.
