David Mach has built a reputation on making works out of the ‘mundane’ and everyday object often mass produced and easily forgotten. His ability and craftsmanship it making the viewer look again at not only his works but the materials in which he chooses to fabricate them in, is his signature stamp on the art world. For Mach, the idea of using something as simple as a coat hanger is not only playful, but a rebellion against what ‘typical art’ should be constructed from. Mach says:
“I’m doing it with this unlikely, naff materials because coat hangers are something you don’t give a second thought to. It’s getting to another audience. You’re not talking to the guy who loves art; you’re trying to reach people who would rather set you on fire and chuck you in the river than pay attention to what you do.”
