In 2002 Nicola Hicks was invited to take part in 'Sterling Stuff' an exhibition which invited 50 British artists to create a small sculpture in sterling silver. For many artists this was their first experience in using the precious metal and took an experimental approach. Here we see Hicks using the patination to lend itself to her working method of plaster on straw with the inherent value of the metal only recognisable when the sculpture is picked up.
