Lynn Chadwick had a unique making process which began with steel rods that he would weld in space in a spontaneous and instinctive way to create a structure that would then be filled with a plaster compound stolit and worked to give the piece form and texture. As a result, Chadwick rarely scaled works up or down in size preferring to make works to the scale he intended at the point of initiation of a sculpture.
Throughout the seventies Chadwick concentrated on exploring the figure - either as a solo figure or often as a couple. He experimented with all sizes from the playful miniatures as seen here in Miniature Figure VI to the monumental as in the Pair of Walking Figures - Jubilee. Each work regardless of size took Chadwick's full attention to bring to the work either dynamic movement or an intimate stillness and always a strong presence.
