Forming Geoffrey Clarke's first series of medals The Destruction of the Environment consisted of 39 different designs eight of which were exhibited in 'Medals Today: International Exhibition of Modern Medals' at Goldsmiths Hall in 1973. Geoffrey Clarke described the series: 'The serpent of pollution eats the fruit of fertility. The riches of the earth - piles of fruit - are squandered by mankind - the fruit falling off its store place. The medals, each uniface, reading as pairs showing nature before and after the activity of man'.
