Alison Wilding trained at Nottingham College of Art and Ravensbourne College of Art during the 1960s and went on to study at the Royal College of Art from 1970–73 where she specialised in sculpture. Wilding’s first major solo exhibition was held at the Serpentine Gallery, London in 1985 and in 1987 the Museum of Modern Art, New York hosted her first international solo show, Projects. Tate Liverpool held a retrospective exhibition of wilding’s work in 1991 and she was elected a Royal Academician in 1999.
Wilding’s works are created through a number of processes such as modelling, carving and casting and she is a prolific draughtswoman. The material qualities of her work interpret her interest in perceptual and philosophical questions concerning the nature of art and belie her concern with light, territories, boundaries and their embodiment in matte
